Sarah Buckley Therapies Ltd is committed to promoting excellence in the field of speech and language therapy. One of the ways in which we do this is by providing people who are interested in the field with work experience. Our work experience should help you decide whether a career in speech and language therapy is right for you and increase your readiness to undertake training to become a speech and language therapist.
We run interactive workshops for those who are planning to apply for a speech and language therapy course or are curious about the profession and want to know more. These workshop will give you an insight into the role of a speech and language therapist, and you will get the opportunity to shadow an SBT therapist in either a school or at our clinic.
- Misconceptions about speech and language therapy
- The different layers of language and communication
- Common strategies and techniques speech therapists use
- How to apply techniques, using real-life case studies
There is also plenty of time to ask questions about the profession and therapists’ experience of applying to universities or for jobs.
Within 2-3 weeks of your workshop, you will be allocated to a therapist in the team, who will give you the chance to observe them in action and to put into practice what you learnt at the workshop.

“I am thoroughly enjoying my time working with the team at Sarah Buckley Therapies; the ongoing support and enthusiasm has developed my confidence as a soon to qualify Speech and Language Therapist, by increasing my independence and autonomy when delivering therapy and administering assessment. The support and advice I have gained from my Practice Educators has been invaluable, and I feel lucky to have shared my last placement as a student SLT with such an encouraging and collaborative team.’Holli, SLT student, City University
“I have loved my week of Work Experience at Sarah Buckley Therapies, and it has solidified my decision to pursue a career in speech and language therapy, as I have been able to gain an invaluable insight into not only the office based aspect, but by watching videos of therapy and talking to members of the team about the day to day life of being a speech and language therapist, I’ve learnt about the clinical side too. It has been an extremely enjoyable week, and I am very grateful to have had this opportunity – thank you!”Anna, year 11 student, Bullers Wood School
