As you approach the end of your studies, you will start to look at opportunities for your first year as working as a Speech and Language Therapist. Here are some top tips to consider when you are putting together your personal statement and/or CV for prospective employers:
Start strong by highlighting your key strengths and achievements
Research the company, in particular their values and objectives, to make sure these align with yours and so you can bespoke your application
Think about what you have learned and what the impact has been, rather than just listing responsibilities
Show some insight into some of the current issues for Speech and Language Therapy in the UK at the moment
Check for formatting and spelling with a fine tooth comb
You can always reach out to organisations with any questions in advance of your application and/or interview to ask any informal questions so you are as prepared as you can be.
Good luck with your first steps into this fantastic profession!
Last week, the Mental Health Charter certified Sarah Buckley Therapies as a mental health committed employer. We have signed the mental health workplace pledge, which means we have committed to:
Recognising that mental health challenges can be an issue within the workplace and employees may need support
Talking openly, respectfully and positively about mental health
Getting the conversation started around mental health and recognising we all have mental health, just like we have physical health
Actively supporting and informing our employees affected by mental health challenges
Experiencing a mental health challenge is hard enough. Fear of judgement, shame and isolation just makes it that much harder. That’s why we’re working with the Mental Health Charter to end mental health stigma and discrimination.

Want to join our friendly team? SBT is looking to take on two newly qualified SLTs for a September 2020 start.

SBT is sensitive to the current unique situation that final year Speech and Language Therapy students face as they approach the end of their training. We understand that the Covid-19 situation means that final placements and learning are being delivered in different, creative and innovative ways.
We would like to reassure you that we will bear this in mind should you decide to apply for a position with SBT both during the application process but also when designing your induction and during the initial three months of working with us.
